white coffee with egg tart
Hainanese toasted bread
Hakka noodle with 'yong tau fu'
parking system - coupon
I dedicate this page to Restaurant Nam Heong - a famous coffeeshop located in Old Town, Ipoh. Friends travelled from Kuala Lumpur to eat during Chinese New Year 2011 but it was closed. For us, a trip here would be on less crowded days and time if we can help it as tables are limited too. It is quite normal to have 'just arrived' customers standing behind you to book their seats whilst you are eating. And of course, the 'just arrived' customers would eyed for the 'almost done' diners. The presence of the 'just arrived' customers would thus create some heat to the 'almost done' diners to hurry up. This is one of those definitely not the place for one to chit chat and linger with friends.
We tried the Hakka noodle-it was springy and taste nice. Yong Tau Fu - another Hakka dish of fish stuffed things sells for RM0.60 a piece - in Kuala Lumpur, we have to pay around RM1.00. Needless to say, I went berserk. Hainanese toast - basically a light textured bread toasted and smothered in butter and kaya was done in a melt-in-mouth texture. Simply divine. Together with iced white coffee, you can say I reached heaven.
We were amazed about the parking system in Old Town. We were looking for the much accustomed parking meter to which we feed in coins. Out came a man who displayed his business sign of selling the parking coupon. Our breakfast friend informed that there were no parking meters in whole of Ipoh! To us, this system is rather archaic, but then again, perhaps this lends to the charms of Ipoh.
