Mom's homemade sausages for CNY

smoking sausages in homemade 'smokehouse'

We were in Penang and when we wanted to leave, hub noticed one of the car tyres was a bit flat.  Drove into a petrol station to pump in air but whilst doing it, the nozzle attached to the inner tubing came out.  Hub decided to change/repair before we hit the highway into Ipoh which was about 2 hours drive away and help will be hard to come by.  Armed with little information, we just drove around looking for a tyre shop as we don't have any online devices to provide google search.  In less than 5 minutes, we were able to sight the much needed service.  Sigh of relief!  Spent RM5.00 here.

Could not resist taking a snapshot of mom's sausages.  Chinese New Year is less than a month's away.  It has been raining these few weeks and mom could not push out the sausages to dry.  She made a 'smokehouse' - a   pot of burning coals underneath a table from which she hang the sausages.  Over this table, she draped cloth all around to trap the heat.

Mom's container garden was bursting with fruits of her labor and she was extremely proud of her 'bird' plant.  Next to her home, neighbours on both sides are avid gardeners.  Everytime when I am back home, I would 'treasure hunt' to find what's latest in the garden.  For me, many plants have died in my hands and I resolve to plant what's easier in our hot and humid climate.  Many a times, I had forgotten to water my plants and leaving them purely to a generous shower of rain.  Occassionally if I do remember, then I would add in fertilizer/compost.

To all gardeners, wishing you fruits of labor ....
