My hometown

Decided to take the train back to my hometown, Ipoh, in view of the long public holidays.  Most folks will be busy travelling on the highways for 'balik kampung' trips also.  I remembered being stuck in jam for 7 hours for what should be a 3 hour travel years ago.

This new express train goes from Seremban to Ipoh.  It gives a ride on speed about 150 - 160km/hr.  I really enjoyed the ride - clean cabins, air conditioned and took slightly under 2 hours to reach my hometown, Ipoh. Hub and I checked out the train's cafeteria and we were having the 'hmmm, should have known better' look on our faces.  The 'cafeteria' serves buns and hot drinks - limited choices here.  The cafeteria doesn't occupy a whole cabin but it is just a bar counter with few seats.

Ipoh is a quiet little town I grew up in and still in love with.  I remembered during my school days, my friends and I used to hang out at A&W outlet.  McDonald's was not in town yet then.  KFC was  a special treat.  Now, whatever chain shops available in Kuala Lumpur, one can find it in Ipoh too.  Well done!

One of my favourite street is Cowan Street (see pic below).  Somehow the architecture is just simply captivating - I spent a number of my growing years in the vicinity.  Whenever I am back there again, I relive  my childhood days once more - a walk down memory lane.

Had time to poke around mom's plants.  Mom's green fingers paid off - the dragon fruit finally makes its appearance.  Mom planted it in just a flower pot.  Give her a piece of land and she will keep her green fingers busy.  The neighbours on both sides share the same passion.  Currently, mom is on a 'Roselle' planting fever.  Once we had a mango tree.  It grew and grew and mom had to hire someone to chop it down.  Next, we had a papaya tree.  Too many fruits it bore and the tree fell down during one thunderstorm.

Ah....Ipoh....much have been said about you.  The cheap and glorious food, beautiful maidens, limestone hills.  I could sing of you time and time again.  Truly miss you!
