Stretching over to my keyboard, the pain came in sharp. As with all the onset of backpains, I lay flat on the floor. But this time, my little trick did not work for the pain became more intense. Cold sweat and seeing stars, I was fearful I would faint out of sheer pain. Getting in and out of the car was a torture. The doctor examined the x-ray and dianogsis was muscle spasm. And how did I get to here? And how do I prevent it from happening again? Can't - that's the sad verdict.
Few things I found out from my days in bed other than having reading materials (too much staring at ceiling on your back dampers the recovery process):
1. a person bedridden need a hairwash
2. a wooden massage bed would be good in the house - the height and hard surface helps the patient
3. plastic stool high enough for the patient to hoist himself up from a sitting position and light enough for him to move it around (especially left alone in the house)
4. bean bag (pic above) - microwave @ 40secs and put to pain area - just heavenly. Other heat pads should do just fine.
5. don't sit at 90degrees, rest upper torso against back of chair for support
6. x-ray/MRI does wonders - at least you are aware what's happening inside - wonder why God did not make us transparent .....
7. having a cycling drinking bottle-you can hydrate yourself anytime in bed - I do think a baby bottle works very well....manufacturers should come up with a adult design though.....
8. leave a set of house keys with a good friend so that he/she can come to you in emergency and you should have given the keys when all is well much earlier .....
9. do abdominal strengthening exercises when you have recovered
and lastly, cough or sneeze SOFTLY as it may send you another shot of pain .....
