Donated our 5ft Christmas tree away to a seconds store as part of our downsizing move. I remembered the tree was bought the year after we invited our neighbour over for a Christmas meal. His son wondered why we don't have a Christmas tree and there was no turkey. The next year, I had my Christmas tree and a big oven to roast my turkey. Over the years, prices of turkey went up and my oven sits more idle.
When I saw Christmas trees being lighted up beautifully in homes, I was in regret giving up my tree. There is something magical about the Christmas tree. Children seem to be so amazed by it. My little nephew took the tree from the living room into his bedroom and sleep with it. Another child asked 'is it Christmas?' as there was no Christmas tree in the classroom. I pointed up to the ceiling and hanging in every corner were paper Christmas trees. He smiled and went into great joy.
I went to the seconds store to drop more things for them to sell. Ah...my 5ft Christmas tree was still there. Part of me wanted to take it back but sensibility got the better hold of me. God was kind - in a corner was this little tree - 1ft and I thought that would be nice for me to have and to hold. And there I was....donated my 5ft tree and bought a much much smaller one at the same store.
Money spent is money went to charity. Regrets not
