Church friend gave a lot of tofu bought from the local market. 'Awful', she said. She quickly grabbed some new ones from the organic shop to prepare dinner for a church meeting. I am with the least discerning taste when it comes to organic food. I took home the 'awful' tofu and boil a big pot of soup. I read somewhere that tomatoes are good for guys against prostate cancer. Hub can't stand my spaghetti bolognaise as its too sour for his liking and I, for health reasons, do not wish to add sugar to counteract that. As such, recipe for bolognaise can be thrown out of the window.
Hub brought home packs of tamarind soup mix from Philippines. One can search the whole of Kuala Lumpur and find nothing of such on the shelves. Tamarind gives a sour flavour and it is a must in dish Laksa. Tomatoes does give that sour note but the flavours differs altogether. One may opt to include a bit of tamarind (either in pulp or dried slices - just a small serving) into the soup below. If you prefer it a bit spicy, add a piece of chili and a stalk of lemongrass - this brings you to the Thai flavour.
