Above pic is part of a tree trunk which I cross stitched years ago. Though as you can see, some of the designs are not really crossed at all.
Cross stitching uses various colors of threads. If you are into it, you will agree that many times, you ended up with remnants of various colored threads at the end of your project. And those threads will sit in your drawers until you match them to your next project.....clutter, clutter, clutter.
The beautiful part of the single color stitching is that at the end of your project, you will only have one colored remnant thread. The various technique of stitching gives the demarcation. You may also opt for monochromatic black giving an elegant look.
